Sudsy Daydreams & Handmade Things
I’ve been trying forever to find something I can do from home that actually lights me up inside. I’ve always been a hands-on, artsy-crafty kind of gal—give me a paintbrush, a plant, or a ball of yarn and I’m happy. Making things calms my mind and gives me that little spark of joy we all need sometimes.
Lately, I’ve fallen completely in love with soap-making. They’re just so beautiful, and there’s something magical about creating something from scratch that’s not only pretty but actually helps people feel good in their skin.
But let me tell you the real reason I started making soap—it’s personal. My grandson breaks out in terrible welts and itching from store-bought soaps. It’s heartbreaking. My husband has rosacea and dry skin, and honestly? I’m just looking for anything to help my own skin feel silkier, brighter, and a little more youthful. I’m a sun lover with a long history of skin struggles (I had a bad chemical burn when I was little), and I’ve always been passionate about skincare—I even went to school to be a nail tech and esthetician. I almost went the full cosmetology route, but messing up someone’s hair? Oh no, I couldn’t handle that pressure 😂. Skin, though? That’s my jam.
My first soap? Total disaster. It flopped so bad I had to learn how to rebatch (which I still haven’t totally figured out—send help 😅). But I’m not a quitter! My second soap? Gorgeous. Now I’ve got 5 that I’m proud of… and 3 that are, well, a learning experience 😄. I’m also figuring out labels, which has been harder than I thought, but I finally designed some simple bands I actually like!
And this is after I tried to re-batch it. My first soap.
Next up: whipped body butters, lip balms (still tweaking that one), a hair potion to bring my locks back to life, and beard balm for my hubby. Oh—and I dream of growing my own herbs to add to everything I make. A little lavender from my garden in a bar of soap? Yes, please. Maybe even toss in a cucumber or tomato or two while I’m at it.
All of this… I hope it becomes something real. Something that supports us. I’m juggling this, my blog, and affiliate marketing, trying to figure out how to turn my passions into income. It’s a little messy, but it’s mine—and I’m finally doing something that feels like me.
